Receive Weather and Emergency Announcements

We know our parents have busy schedules and we understand the importance of providing a stable, consistent learning environment for the children.  Although rare, sometimes severe weather conditions or other emergency situations make it impractical for the schools to operate. 

The North Shore Montessori Schools use “School Messenger” as the primary notification system for school closings and other important announcements.  Each year the school transfers certain contact information you provide us with into the School Messenger system. The contact information we transfer is:

  • Parent #2 Cell Number
  •          
  • Parent #1 Email Address
  •          
  • Parent #2 Email Address

As an enrolled family, you are automatically registered to receive notifications from School Messenger. By default, when the school sends an announcement you will receive the message at each of the above points of contact. If you do not receive a message, chances are that the school does not have your updated information on file (in which case you should contact our Admissions Office at (847) 945-8661 to verify, or provide updated information). The school also uses the two email addresses you provide to send newsletters and other important information to you. For most families, no further action is required to receive important information from the school. If this is the case for you, you are finished.


  • Optionally, School Messenger allows you to customize your account if you wish. Some examples may include:
  • You would like to add another phone number to your list of phones to call for an emergency announcement
  • You would like to have another family member, like a grandparent, receive the school newsletter directly
  • You wish to have your cell phone receive a text message when an emergency announcement is sent

If you do not have a School Messenger account and wish to create and customize one, you must contact the Admissions Office at (847) 945-8661 and request a School Messenger Activation letter. This letter will contain the instructions and other unique information necessary for creating your account. Once you have the letter in hand, please click the "Create a new account" button to create and activate your account.

If you already have a School Messenger account and want to login to customize it, please click the "Login to existing account" button.

As a secondary system we also post school closing information on the website: emergencyclosingcenter.com 

EmergencyClosingCenter.com displays a list of schools and businesses in the Chicago area that are closed because of weather or other emergencies. The information is also relayed to various TV and radio stations for broadcast. After clicking emergencyclosingcenter.com you can search for your school name and see if it is open or closed.

If your school is open, the status is listed as 'OPEN' or 'HAS NOT REPORTED'.  

If your school is closed, it will be listed as '(TODAY) CLOSED'.  

If the school will close early, open late or there is some special information to convey, that will also be posted there.
